Hello! My name is Liza Jean Sovie, I am an up and coming Artist of Fashion. I have always considered myself an artist, but it wasn’t until recently that I found my true medium, Fabric.
I am a North American East Coast Girl, who favors Mid-century Modern and Art Deco aesthetics. If you’re wondering what a “North American East Coast Girl” is, let me explain. I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada and spent my early childhood there, after a brief time in Ontario, Canada we settled just north of Boston in Essex County, Massachusetts where I spent the remainder of my youth and now live with my family.
I didn’t decide what “I wanted to be when I grow up” until after I already had a very successful career. But being happy and loving what you do is more important than being successful. Honestly, it took me quite some time to figure out what I wanted to do and who I wanted to be. Turns out, I wanted to be just like my Mother! You see, my Mother is an Artist of Fashion herself. She just chooses to call herself a Seamstress. I came to realize, after reflecting that I was my happiest self when I was creating with fabric.
So with my new career path chosen, I followed in my mothers footsteps and enrolled in my mother’s Alma mater SFD “The School of Fashion Design, located in the heart of Bostons Fashion District on Newbury Street.
While attending SFD I found my style and discovered how much I really enjoy creating my art from conception to completion. My designs tend to use strong colours, vivid prints, distinct design lines, vintage fabric, which allow me to really express myself creating truly Bespoke garments.
I’ve been working in the fashion industry for several years now, and love my new path. In my spare time, I work on my own designs, and custom projects for clients.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a bit better. I hope you enjoy my portfolio.
